Being a mother is what I always wanted to be, so this is my day. I don’t care if it was created by Hallmark or a Russian Czar or some third grader in Kalamazoo.
I like it.
And I’ll drink bad coffee and eat cold toast in bed to prove it.
But before we get all caught-up in what everyone wants to do for me today that will inevidably not involve a day to myself in a suite at the Ritz with wireless internet access and Dom Perignon, but will result in some extraordinary cleanup effort led by the day’s honoree, I want to pay tribute to…
~ the new (and old) blogs on my blogroll. Not all of you are mothers, nor are all of you women, but you have all made this mother a better all-around gal even if I can’t put away a load of laundry to save my life.*
~ my sister-friend who is far away but with whom I share my daily doses of motherhood, and hers, as if we were right next door where we belong.
~ my children, to whom I am both mother and father. Thank you for knowing that I’m doing my best, even when you can’t find matching socks.
~ my mother, who believes in me more than anyone else. And I know I don’t give you credit for doing so.
~ my grandmother, who left a collection of stories and songs in my heart that make me a better woman and mother and friend.
~ all the friends and family - the mothers, the women, the men - who have stepped up when needed, and have stepped back, as well.
You are all part of the reason I am able to be here today, being my best me, deriving joy from each and every day, and having a happy Mother’s Day.
I honor you, and thank you all, with love. Well, at least those of you who know about my blog.
And now…here they come with the tray!
Oy vey.
*Not sure if this fits into the HBM contest but it’s what I’ve got!

May 14th, 2006While you know I don’t usually comment on your posts in this format (I save it for our off-line times!), I was driven to do so. Perhaps it was because your post was so warm and wonderful (as usual) or perhaps it was because we could ALL say, “Right back atcha, babe!”. Or perhaps it was because you didn’t mention me FIRST in what you were thankful for!! Just jokin’.
Thank you for reminding me that on this day, while moms are to be honored, it’s also a wonderful time for us moms to remind ourselves for what we are thankful. And yes, Kvetch, you’re on my list too. Top? Second mention?? You know where you rank with me, sista.

May 14th, 2006Wonderful post from a wonderful woman.
Wishing you a very happy Mother’s Day! You deserve it

May 15th, 2006Happy Mother’s Day!
And yes, I agree… I don’t care if the kid in Kalamazoo made it up to get on his mom’s goodside so he could play another hour on the X-box.
I’ll take it too!

May 15th, 2006Happy mother’s day to you, too. Bad coffee still has caffeine, right? So you’re good.

May 15th, 2006I hope you had a great Mother’s Day and you enjoyed (at least in spirit) everything that was on that tray.

May 15th, 2006It totally fits - it’s mutha-love, dammit, and that’s all I need.
Happy mother’s day!

May 15th, 2006You deserve a day at the Ritz with wireless internet access and Dom Perignon. I too am happy with bad coffee and cold toast from my children.
That was beautiful!

May 15th, 2006May all your mothers days be filled with Dom, wireless and very friendly pool boys or pool men whichever you prefer!

May 15th, 2006I like it too for the same reasons. I’m glad to know someone else takes as much pleasure in it as I do! I hope you had a wonderful Mother’s Day.
