I was driving home from errands yesterday and thought, “I’ll see if just-turned-12-year old daughter wants her nails polished when I get home.” No sooner than I finished that thought did my cell phone ring.”
“Mom, when you get home will you polish my nails?”
“Um, I was just thinking that.”
A few weeks ago I got an out-of-the blue call from Friend A, whom I speak to once or twice a year, at most. Friend A mentioned Friend B, who I also rarely speak to. They are not friends, just childhood acquaintances. It was strange that A would mention B at all, but especially since that very day I was in the middle of writing something about Friend B.
Fifteen hours before my ex-husband died, I thought about the fact that he had life insurance from which my kids would benefit if something happened to him. The thought seemed to come out of no where. I shrugged it off.
The morning of my cousin’s Bar Mitzvah I woke up after having a strange dream that my history professor (I was in college) was at the Bar Mitzvah. It was a lecture-hall style class. I had no personal knowledge of this professor. That is, until he walked out of the synogogue after the service that morning.
Intuition? Coincidence?
Do after-the-fact revelations and cosmic waltzes happen to everyone?
You tell me.

August 14th, 2007Not quite the same thing… but I tend to get calls from ex-boyfriends or friends from my past in threes. I quit answering numbers I don’t recognize after having to talk to three ex-boyfriends in one week.
This week, I’ve talked to one ex and one friend from about three years ago. I’m waiting to see who the third random call will be from!

August 14th, 2007YES, that stuff has happened to me. It’s quite creepy. The weirdest one I’ve seen is that the night before the OK City bombing my husband woke up in a cold sweat dreaming there had been a big car bombing in NYC. Needless to say, he was pretty freaked out the next day!

August 14th, 2007i don’t know if they happen to everyone but they obviously happen to you. i think it’s a fine line between instinct and paranoia (for me) and i also think we all have the capacity for more fine-tuning if we stopped and actually listened. what a great post.

August 14th, 2007My premonitions rarely come true, even though I’m an intuitive person in the here and now. My daughter’s premonitions, however, are frequently accurate. It’s like she can read both the present and the future in the same way. It’s freaky.

August 14th, 2007That happens to me a lot. I think a lot of women, especially women, just have a preternatural sense of others and others’ needs. Lots of us don’t listen to it though. Good for you for listening!

August 14th, 2007I think everyone has a sixth sense, but some people are more tuned in. I’ve definitely had a few of those moments in my life. But those - those are some very specific moments and worthy of a Twilight Zone episode.

August 15th, 2007Yes!
And it seems to run in my family, these cosmic coincidences and predictions of sorts. It’s why I’ve been a tad nervous for the past few days as my 2 year old, out of the blue, starting requesting cuddles from his grandmother and grandfather (dad’s side) who are many hours away from us at the moment… So nervous, we called them to make sure all was well.

August 15th, 2007Happens to me, too. Occasionally I have dreamt something that comes true the next day. Freaky.

August 15th, 2007Not to everyone, but it often happens to Hubba-hubba.

August 16th, 2007I beleive in all that stuff for sure but things were rarely eerie (in a sixth sense kind of way) until I had my second daughter. She has this uncanny way of saying things out loud that I am thinking, finding what I am looking for on the shelves of a store and doing things when I am away that are perfectly in tune with what I am doing somewhere totally removed from her. Even my husband (who rarely notices these kinds of things notices–a lot). I embrace it as much as I can and try to keep in mind that she KNOWS more than I often give her credit for. I’d like to learn more about how to nurture her gifts and enhance her abilities…any suggestions? Am I freaking anyone out yet? ; )

August 17th, 2007Oh yes, to an extent that is absolutely scary - especially the dreams. My antennae seem to be in tune with the universe and that is not always a good thing. I often feel like Cassandra.

September 7th, 2007I know this is an older post, but I just found your blog and read this and had to add in. My mother died when I was 14. The day she died, I was walking home from school thinking, “How would I react if they told me my mother died? What would I say or do?” Twenty minutes later I was told that my mother had died that morning. How did I react? I burst out laughing. I thought it was a joke. I had just thought about it twenty minutes earlier! When I realized that it was no joke, I didn’t know how to react. I just got up and left the room. Strange.
